National Read a Book Day

September Sixth was the United States National Read a Book Day. To celebrate, our team went to multiple book boxes over the weekend and donated a few gaming-related comics/books and children's books. While it's no longer National Read a Book Day, it doesn't mean you can't still enjoy a good read! If you'd like to read a book and don't know where to start, we've got you covered! Here are some gaming-themed book recommendations.










Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow


Gabrielle Zevin's book Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow follows Sadie and Sam, who have a friendship that spans nearly thirty years. In college, the childhood friends band together to develop a game. They beg for favors, borrow money, and before graduating, they've created their first blockbuster game, Ichigo. With instant success, how will these two friends navigate their newfound world?









Console Wars


Harris's business thriller allows you to step into the world of video games during the 90s console wars. Console Wars chronicles and gives a peak at behind the curtain at Sega, in the 90s. Console Wars has over two hundred interviews with former Nintendo and Sega employees. Read about how Sega, Tom Kalinske, and his team helped revolutionize the gaming industry.










Cat + Gamer


Cat + Gamer follows Riko, a twenty-something office worker. She's obsessed with video games. Riko is quiet at the office. At home, she is loud and living her best life playing video games. Until one day, her life is changed by taking in a stray cat. At first, she has no idea what to do but quickly relates caring for the cat to leveling up a video gamer character.











Armada


If you're a fan of Earnest Cline's book Ready Player One, you'll enjoy his other novel Armada. Like Ready Player One, Armada has plenty of video game and pop culture references. Armada follows Zack Lightman, a sci-fi video game-obsessed teen. Zack wishes for some world-changing event to take him away until it happens.












Life is Strange Graphic Novel


If you enjoyed the Life is Strange series, these novels are definitely for you. The graphic novel starts exactly where the game left off. You’ll get to enjoy once again following Max and Chloe one year after the storm. They have a new life together, but issues are starting to arise.
